Nat_Pyramides

In order to torture us more thoroughly, our Egyptian guide kept the pyramids for last, after we’d seen every (or so it seemed) single temple there ever was built in Egypt. Want sand? We got sand! So when we finally got to put our sweaty Westerner hands all over this ancient goodness, can you tell I was in archeologist heaven? I’ve read about these since I was a kid. And now I’ve touched one. AND climbed into one as well! The most Indiana Jones moment of the whole trip!

Nat_TempleEsna

Ooooh, the ancient Egyptian goodness. If I could put speech bubbles on my pics, this one would read “ooooh, my preciousssssss.”

Nat_Sphinx
Nat_Camo

Yes, I do realize my head is almost as big as the sphinx’s. You think I like that? Huh?! But just look at him, isn’t he gorgeous? I got girlwood just walking by. *sigh*

Shhh! I’m camouflaged!
Hey, it can’t all be serious business, traveling. Sometimes, you have to have a bit of fun. This was taken in Aswan, at the Kitchener Botanical Gardens, on the Elephant Island (don’t ask, I forgot why it’s called that).

nat_dress

Some have asked if I *ever* wear a dress. Yes I do! I wear a dress, like, sometimes and stuff...Okay, okay, this is the only known picture of moi in a dress, taken this Christmas (Dec 06). Look! I’m even wearing jewelry! If you laugh, I’ll know. Believe me I will. Then I’ll set my demented squirrels after you. Not just demented squirrels. Demented, sex-crazed squirrels. Big ones.

We stopped in a Nubian village along the way and got to hold Nile crocodiles. Yes, I know what my shirt says. I find the irony eminently funny.

Nat_VillageNubien

This is the only pic in existence of me actually *touching* the ancient goodness. I usually make a point of NOT touching. But I stumbled just as the camera went. So here I am, caught in the act. Damn.

Casablanca, Morocco. Did you know the 1942 movie Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman was mostly shot in a studio made to resemble Marrakech? That should’ve clued us in as to the choice of cities to visit. But what the hell, we like to live dangerously, watch donkeys be beaten and chickens packed so tight into wooden crates all we could see were beaks. Poor beasts. The doctor Doolittle in me still weeps from our visit of Casablanca. But there was also beauty in that old, old city. Behind me is the second largest mosque in the world, Hassan II, finished in 1993. It was very, very big and very, very beautiful.
