Casablanca, Morocco. Did you know the 1942 movie Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman was mostly shot in a studio made to resemble Marrakech? That should’ve clued us in as to the choice of cities to visit. But what the hell, we like to live dangerously, watch donkeys be beaten and chickens packed so tight into wooden crates all we could see were beaks. Poor beasts. The doctor Doolittle in me still weeps from our visit of Casablanca. But there was also beauty in that old, old city. Behind me is the second largest mosque in the world, Hassan II, finished in 1993. It was very, very big and very, very beautiful.
